Download Yoke
- Open the file you downloaded.
Android asks once whether your browser may install apps. Allow it, then tap Install.
- Make Yoke your home app.
Press the home button and choose Yoke, or go to Settings, Apps, Default apps, Home app.
- Point it at your Obsidian vault.
Swipe left, tap "Pick vault folder" and choose the folder Syncthing keeps in sync. Yoke finds your Cockpit board's columns there.
- Turn on double tap to lock, if you want it.
Locking uses Android's accessibility service and nothing else. Because Yoke isn't installed from a store, Android 13 and newer first need App info, the three-dot menu, "Allow restricted settings".
Smart grayscale (optional)
Smart grayscale turns the whole phone grayscale except in the apps you choose. It needs a one-time permission that Android only lets developer tools grant. The grant survives Yoke updates, and Yoke uses it only to switch colour correction on and off. Pick one way:
- On the phone, with Shizuku.
Install Shizuku, start it with Wireless debugging, then open Yoke, Settings, Smart grayscale and tap "Grant with Shizuku".
- From a computer, with adb.
Connect the phone and run
adb shell pm grant com.outsmartis.yoke android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Then turn on Yoke's accessibility service. On Android 13 and newer, first open App info, the three-dot menu, "Allow restricted settings".
Every release is built and signed by GitHub Actions from the public source. The SHA-256 of each APK is published next to it as yoke.apk.sha256, and the signing certificate's SHA-256 is c1c53f01f674494483aa0cb16b0190c4ccbe736840580c383c18bc88510ad4da.
